The Foundation Program Objectives
The Foundation Program is open to AIU degree-seeking students. The program prepares students for university-level study in both English and Mathematics, ensuring they have the academic skills necessary to succeed in their chosen degree programs.
The Foundation Program consists of courses in two core areas:
- English – Grammar and Writing, Listening and Speaking, and Reading and Vocabulary.
- Mathematics – Fundamental concepts and problem-solving skills required for degree-level courses.
Through weekly scheduled courses, students have the opportunity to:
- Develop academic English and Math skills needed to complete AIU courses.
- Enhance reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and quantitative reasoning skills necessary for success in college-level courses.
- Read and understand a variety of scholarly materials and mathematical problems while learning to analyze and interpret information for comprehension.
- Become accustomed to an American academic environment, with the goal of successfully transitioning into a university-level degree program.
- Improve oral communication skills to engage effectively with classmates and faculty in group discussions and presentations.
- Strengthen problem-solving and logical reasoning abilities essential for mathematics and technical courses.
- Pronounce standard American English for both production and comprehension purposes.
- Participate fully in AIU student life and meet with academic advisors to ensure a smooth transition to university-level courses.
