How to Deal with Stress as a Student

With students moving from online schooling back to attending on-campus, the excitement of meeting your friends on campus and getting involved in social activities seems like a lifelong awaited experience. Soon, however, the classes start to pile up, the assignments are due, the phone never stops buzzing and you can barely get any sleep. All of this soon leads up to burnout and stress. How do you ensure you’re not only managing your time, but also your stress levels? We’ve listed a few points to help you get on your feet and back on track!  

 

1. Eat Well  

An unhealthy diet and significantly increase your stress levels. Avoid the high-fat and high-sugar foods and try to maintain a clean and balanced diet 

 

2. Exercise  

This is perhaps the best way to reduce stress. Exercising increases your dopamine and endorphins (natural chemicals that make you feel good), helps you sleep better and reduces stress. Try to incorporate activities like workouts, yoga or jogging into your routine.  

 

3. Have a creative outlet  

When everything starts to feel like its piling up, that’s when you need to take out some time to relax. Dedicate some time to either write, draw, paint, sketch or for any other activity that helps you relax.  

 

4. Surround yourself with the right people 

When things get tough it helps to be with people who encourage you and uplift you. Having a support system you can rely on becomes the most important aspect for many in their lives.  

 

5. Meditate  

Meditating for as much as 15 minutes a day can drastically improve your mental health and clarity. It allows you to concentrate on the present and clear your thoughts to help navigate your obstacles more efficiently.  

 

6. Journal  

Journaling has helped many individuals of all ages deal with anxiety and stress. It helps to write down your emotions and thoughts, these can help deal with life’s challenges on a daily basis. It’s worth a shot!
