Kuwait History | On This Day ...

On this day, February 8, 1978, Sheikh Saad Abdallah Al-Salim Al Sabah became the 4th Prime Minster of Kuwait. He held the position for over 25 years, making him the longest running PM in Kuwait history.

Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait in January 15, 2006, succeeding Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who had reigned for 13 years. He was a general commander in the Military of Kuwait, in addition, the first to head the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior until 16 February 1978 and the first military officer to head the Ministry of Defense since 1964.

Sheikh Saad was an active leader in the liberation of Kuwait and defied Iraq's invasion with vigor, while keeping the security of Kuwait at the foreground of all his dealings with the invading country.
